American “pick-up artist”, militant misogynist, rape advocate and rapist Daryush Valizadeh, or ‘Roosh V’ intends to hold a meeting in George Square on the 6th of February. This man openly promotes methods of sexually assaulting women to his fan base, and advocates the legalisation of rape on private property, arguing that “a woman who has consented to entering a man’s home has consented to sex”. In his books he himself has specified the numerous ways in which he has taken advantage of drunk, drugged or otherwise vulnerable women unable to consent to sex. According to the BBC, his website, Return of Kings, has over a million users, who have submitted guides on the best places to sexually assault women in Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland’s major cities.
Here’s where you can do your part. This isn’t just an opportunity to voice your disgust that a rapist and rape advocate is being welcomed into this city.
There have been threats that any female gate-crashers in protest will risk “furious retribution”. The specifics of such “retribution” have not been entailed, but it has been stated that attendees in support of Roosh V should bring cameras with them in order to record protesters.
In this case, strength in numbers is absolutely vital. The more protesters attend, the less chance these rape apologists have to carry out whatever threats are intended upon female protesters. Not only could you have the chance to speak out against the promotion of sexual violence in Scotland, your attendance could mean the immediate protection of the female presence at the event.
